As part of our Community Member Spotlight series, we caught up with Elizabeth about her role and responsibilities, what she does in her free time, and a favorite quote of hers!

Q: In your role, what are you responsible for?

A: As Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, I oversee a research laboratory focused on optimizing and implementing interventions to reduce disability among people with cognitive changes after acquired brain injury and stroke. As SHRS Associate Dean for Research, I oversee the people, processes, and resources that support research throughout the school.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your time off?

A: I really enjoy hiking in natural settings, whether in the state of Pennsylvania or wherever I may travel. Alone or with my family and friends, long walks clear my mind, restore my perspective, and energize me for the work before me.

Q: What's one thing you would tell people about the Bridgeside community?

A: I love that I work among a community of very talented students, trainees, staff, and faculty who continually teach me new things and challenge me to grow personally and professionally.

Q: What's your favorite restaurant/café in Oakland?

A: Spice Island Tea House. So many good choices!

Q: What's a favorite quote of yours?

A: “Humility is an attitude that reduces concern for self-importance and elevates concern for the importance (the distinct value) of others. Humility is cultivated in community.” – Unknown Author
